“Space Trek V: Choose Your Own Trek!”

Sometimes we here at Gunkcast have an episode plan so massive…so grand, that actually trying to follow through with it seems a near impossible task. On the seldom occasion this ever happens, we may find we need a really good excuse for why we kept our fans waiting for something we promised for so long. Example A: the follow-up to Space Trek IV from ONE YEAR ago! Ok, honestly… we ran out of ideas. Smidge’s car had a flat tire as he was on the way to work on the episode with Byron. We didn’t have enough money to meet the podcast budget. Byron’s tux didn’t come back from the cleaners (which he needed for the pitch meeting with podcast executives). Old friends came in from out of town! Someone stole the script! There was an earthquake…A terrible flood… Locusts! IT WASN’T OUR FAULT, WE SWEAR TO GOD! (Oh sorry… wrong movie).

So one year ago we left our fans waiting for answers in the aftermath of yet another huge episode cliffhanger ending. What was to become of Captain Jerk, Stones M’Boy, Sock, Checkout, Snotty, & the rest of the crew of the Starship Arrow when it was revealed that imminent disaster was about to strike as they prepared to beam up from the Island of Impossible Moss (after the big showdown with the villainous Double-J Raygun)? Well finally we are back with the long awaited answer…or shall we say “answers!”

Yes, this time we are giving you (our dedicated listeners) the choice to make as to what the outcome of this most perilous situation could be! So what are you waiting for? Join us now for the 5th installment of a most epic sci-fi comedy adventure mini-series (brought to you by the warped minds behind this humble podcast)! Remember, the success of the mission this time relies on your decision…!

And just when you think this episode can’t get any better, you may want to also tune in for a classic track from one of our main Gunkcast house bands… Curmudgeon. Yes, this one truly has it all folks!

"From Primordial Soup…To The Barcode"

So what’s exactly happening with Byron so far in 2014? Last time he took the podcast on a bit of an emotional roller coaster, & now he decides to get all philosophical(?)! While this may be some pretty uncharacteristic stuff for Gunkcast, we also strongly feel it is some of the best to come out yet!

So here we find Byron kicking the whole thing off with a bit of a rant on punk fashion (with some help from a certain punk rock icon from the past), which then somehow leads to Byron’s theories on evolution, revelations of long-lost music projects, & speculations on just where our final destination will be in the end! (Can it possibly involve a machine-readable code in the form of numbers and a pattern of parallel lines of varying widths??)

Oh, and very noteworthy for this episode is the “secret music” from Byron’s past we guarantee you’ve never heard before! Thanks for listening…cheers!

Since it’s debut a few years back, Gunkcast has really come a long way in its evolution…(or has it?)!

“A Soundtrack For A Bad Hair Day (Part 3)”

Just because we know you didn’t expect it, we decided to come back with a special all music extravaganza to wrap up our big nostalgia trip for the podcast! In late 2013 Bad Hair Day (Parts #1 & 2) featured a plethora of tuneage which paid tribute to three decades past. But since most of the songs were not played in their complete versions, we have compiled several select tracks here in their entirety to form the soundtrack for the true 80’s fan we know is in you!

Once again we provide you, our dedicated listener, with FREE quality music which you may just deem worthy of several repeat listens (& we suggest will make a great travel companion on your portable player of choice)!

So we need to send a BIG thanks to all of our musical contributors. Besides our Gunkcast regulars (Curmudgeon & The Gunk U.K.), we could not have done these episodes without generous offerings from the likes of Letter SeventeenThe Negligible NukesStuart Chaseman, The Basement Lights, The Flat-U-Ants, Byron’s wife—Maggie Mae, & Phil ‘Fingers M’Kracken’! Also please check out more great music you can find from these musicians on the web (from the previous links).

But now we hear Byron has arrived back in 2014…(he claims he was rescued from his skydive by someone piloting a vessel called the TARGIT) & is much overdue to work on the next big Gunkcast! Cheers!!

“Bad Hair Day 2: The 80’s World Tour!”

"There’s been a lot of talk about this next podcast…maybe, maybe too much talk!" Yes, Byron summons the podcast listeners to rally behind his cause with these immortal words which he utters live under a blood red sky. That is…before he pulls the parachute (wait…huh?)!

To kick off the 2nd part of our big retro journey, we find Byron still plummeting towards the Earth on his skydive while he continues the nostalgic trip three decades into the past. But this time (& never-before-seen on Gunkcast) the show goes international for his first guest! Here Byron learns what a “scouser” really is, finds out the origins of this guest’s great love of a certain Chicago sports team, & why he actually has tried to block the 80’s out from his life! After this, Byron free-falls back to the U.S.A. & heads South for some friends (a hint at another podcast team) to vocalize their diverse opinions of the 80’s. This is to quite hilarious results! Finally, the bomb is dropped. One of Byron’s oldest pals stops by the studio with a box which contains the ultimate secret from both of their dark (musical) pasts!

As with the first part episode of Bad Hair Day, this one is abound with much great music of the 80’s (as interpreted by several outstanding contributors)! Some of these include The Basement Lights, Letter Seventeen, The Negligible Nukes, The Flat-U-Ants, Phil ‘Fingers McKraken’… as well as the regular Gunkcast house bands: Curmudgeon & The Gunk U.K.!

Also, watch for one of the whackiest intros ever in the history of the podcast… & we strongly hint at (several) possible hidden endings which you definitely won’t want to miss! In a nutshell, this one has it all folks! Cheers!

And as always…please share the love and listen to some of our favorite podcasts at: Static RadioSpecial DeliveryThe OvernightscapeInsignificast, The Not New Review, For Whatever Reason, & Letter Seventeen!
